Globally, the major iron producing countries have been Australia, Brazil & India, Contributing 86% of total world production. India is a major iron ore producer. Goa, has an exclusive status as an iron ore producer in India, in that it has been the only state in the country to have been granted permission for private operators to produce and export Iron ore and Manganese Ore.
Goa's share in the total Iron Ore production of India is 56%. India's share in the Global production of Iron Ore today is 12.4%. Geographically & logistically Goa has been ideally placed, to export Iron Ore to countries like Japan, China & the Far East.
Japan has been importing about 70% of Goa's produce. Over the last 10 years Japan and other European countries like China & the Far Eastern Countries have shown a steady growth in the off take of Iron Ore from Goa. It is, thus, that there has been no dearth of demand for Iron Ore from Goa. Demand for Iron Ore arises as a result of Global demand for steel and we do not see any slackening in the Global demand for Iron Ore. Steel will always remain a major structural metal for the automobile industry, construction industry, building industry, the railways, etc.
